In the Spring of 2001 the City of Feldkirch presented the Feldkirch Festival for the very first time. Under the artistic direction of Thomas Hengelbrock, the festival was enthusiastically greeted by the general public and critics.
In 2002 the festival had already grown to 17 events, and was once again acclaimed by visitors and the press. The 3rd Feldkirch Festival will be held from 29th May to 8th June 2003.

Artistic Director Thomas Hengelbrock is the guarantor for pioneering concert and music theatre projects, extraordinary new interpretations, innovate forms of design and revivals of forgotten works. The artistic conviction that every work should be interpreted in the context of biographical as well as historical origin and on the instruments of the respective epoch has led Thomas Hengelbrock along paths which have never been tread before. While doing so, he performs musical theatre as well as elocutionary theatre in conjunction with music, vocal music, chamber music and orchestra music from all epochs. His concept for Feldkirch brings tradition and modernity together - a veritable comparison and linkage of various epochs and genres.

The 2003 Festival features the motto «Traces of God». The fundamental idea of the Feldkirch Festival - bringing together artists from various cultures - will also be continued and intensified in 2003. Programmatic cornerstones are the first performance of a commissioned work by composer and Siemens Cultural Prize winner Jan Müller-Wieland featuring Klaus Maria Brandauer. The Balthasar Neumann Choir and Ensemble will feature Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis as the final concert. The Balthasar Neumann Choir and Ensemble is featured as the ensemble-in-residence, while Kenny Werner is participating as artist-in- residence. Also appearing as guests are Daniel Hope, Walter Schmidinger, Tanja Tetzlaff and musicians from around the world - among them musical stars from India and Mexico.

The entire programme of the upcoming festival will appear in late summer.

KAM ART Feldkirch
Starting this year, the Vorarlberger Art & Antiquities Exhibition and the Art Design - Exhibition for Contemporary Applied Arts, will be featured under the name «KAM ART».
The Vorarlberger Art & Antiquities Exhibition is one of the most traditionally-steeped art exhibitions in Austria, and has existed since 1980. It is the artistic event in the Euregio Bodensee (Lake Constance) with a degree of magnetism extending far beyond national boundaries, and will be held in Montforthaus.
In 2000 the Art Design was christened as the exhibition for contemporary applied arts linked with design-oriented handicrafts. The Art Design was accepted so enthusiastically by the general public and exhibitors during its debut that it was ranked straightaway 4th out of 33 events evaluated in the ART AUSTRIA market ranking, and was awarded the note «outstanding». The venue for the Art Design is the Pförtnerhaus, which constitutes a wonderful setting for the presentation of contemporary applied art with high-calibre design and innovative product arrangement. A «museum» show with works from an outstanding artistic personality is also being prepared as the highlight of the exhibition, much like the special exhibitions in the previous year, which proved to be a magnet for the public.
