Municipal director Othmar Vogt from Balzers knows how to unite citizens and clubs with one another through his involvement.

Balzers, the southernmost municipality in Liechtenstein, has 4’300 inhabitants, and with its varied countryside is a location, which offers rest and relaxation for inhabitants as well as visitors.

Othmar Vogt, a very popular municipal director, has served the municipality of Balzers officially and honourably with his full personal commitment since 1987.
The municipality is always keen to offer the population a well-refurbished, sports-oriented, culturally-interesting and beautiful residential community with many activities and interesting new projects in the realm of construction. Balzers is the only municipality in the entire country, which features a bypass road. The new Iramali schoolhouse as well as the municipal administrative reconstruction are two successful projects among the many activities. As a result of the un-ion with the other Liechtenstein municipalities, and thus with the connection to the sewage plant in Bendern, an ecological planning is being realised which will have a positive effect on the environment and nature. Various works have also been carried out in the sphere of road construction. Among other things, this concerns the Palduin and the new Chur road. Eight kilometres of drained riverbed have been reirrigated through filtered groundwater from the Rhine with the Aeulehäg project. Planning and concepts for the future are: The Rheinau sports complex, the municipal hall, redevelopment of the Torkel, Lake Junkerriet, a new kindergarten as well as the «Höfle» residential and commercial superstructure.
Many flourishing industrial, commercial, handicraft and service enterprises are settled in the municipality. The infrastructure of the municipality of Balzers is set up on a high level: Primary and secondary school with sports gymnasiums, kindergartens, indoor swimming pool, municipal centre and halls, a multipurpose building, a youth centre, various sports facilities, rock climbing garden, hiking trails and nature reserve. The exemplarily managed youth centre, «Scharmotz mit Gesicht» («Banter with Character»), is a popular gathering place for many youngsters.
Club life in Balzers is quite considerable, and is wholeheartedly supported by the municipality. Members who have been able to achieve consid-erable success in international competitions have emerged from the various clubs. For instance: Marco Büchel, Achim Vogt and Markus Foser - Alpine skiing; Mario Frick - Football (at the moment under contract with Hellas Verona) - even the competitive «lumberjacks» from Balzers have been able to garner various medals. The Balzers Music Ensemble captured the first place at the Swiss Music Festival. Sonja Hämmerle even won two silver medals and a gold medal at the VII. Special Olympics for handicapped athletes. Balzers also acquired honours and gold medals at the professional Olympics. The gymnastics club and members of the equestrian club (Werner Mayer in driving and Fidel Vogt in jumping) gathered many medals and honours for the municipality. The Balzers cultural life is well-known beyond municipal boundaries as a result of operetta performances in January and February, as well as musicals in August and September on an own operetta stage. The «Culture Summer on the Gutenberg» is also a considerable enrichment for the municipality.
The support among the population in Balzers is largely responsible for the fact that the munici- pality, the municipal council and the municipal administration have been able to fulfil all of these tasks so admirably, and assumes new challenges with great pleasure.
