Municipality of Planken
with Director Gaston Jehle

Gaston Jehle
Municipal Director in subsidiary office

Planken with its 373 inhabitants is the smallest municipality in the Principality of Liechtenstein. It is situated on a sunny terrace at the foot of the «Three Sisters» mountain range, and is surrounded by forests and meadows. Away from traffic, idyllically embedded in the mountain world. Planken is quite well-known for its wonderful panorama, which extends from the Rhine Valley to Lake Constance. Old and new houses harmonise quite well together. A genuine village, as the word already says. The inhabitants as well as visitors enjoy the village atmosphere as well as the peace and quiet. Nevertheless, one is down below in the valley in a few minutes.

Planken has changed in recent years. Due to the rapid growth of the population the infrastructure had to be improved and expanded. And so in recent years a new materials building was erected, the primary school was expanded, the kindergarten received its own home, the water supply was partially renovated and expanded, various roads were redeveloped. The municipality is well prepared for the coming years. The future is also very important for the municipality. Various projects are in the planning phase or are already buzzing around in the minds of those responsible. Planken is a living village.

Over 90 % of the inhabitants work in the valley. That’s why it is necessary that after work the population comes home to an environment in order to recover from the activity. Planken is particularly well-suited for this, because the municipality is situated well away from noise, from traffic and from the hectic atmosphere elsewhere. Not just the inhabitants of Planken appreciate this, but more and more Liechtenstein citizens are coming to Planken in order to experience this feeling of happiness.
