Municipality of Ruggell
with Director Jakob Büchel

Ruggell was quite strongly characterised
by agriculture until well into the 1960’s.
The people mainly lived from agriculture

The structure changed quickly and lastingly with the advent of the 60’s. Young people with solid vocational training found work in the adjacently settled industrial and trade enterprises, and later - starting in the 70’s - in the service sector.

Starting in the mid-60’s an industrial and trade zone was created to make Ruggell not just a residential municipality and to maintain a certain degree of financial independence. A further part of the municipal area was able to be rededicated into the industrial and trade zone at the end of the 90’s. It was clear that the allocation model of the 60’s was not success-fully leading to predetermined objectives and that this land had to be dealt with very sparingly.

The municipality of Ruggell subsequently developed a very modern, flexible system for allocation of regulated building sites for industrial and trade enterprises. The available area was to be utilised as efficiently as possible by means of a compacted grid system construction method and the concentration of parking areas for gainfully employed.

Immediately after enactment of the new allocation system two pioneering business operations could be settled, which together rendered ca. 200 new jobs.

And so Ruggell has not only an attractive residential area at its disposal, but also an industrial and trade zone which lives up to the most modern claims.
