Xaver Hoch has served the municipality of Triesen since 1987.

Triesen, the third-largest municipality in the country with 4’650 inhabitants, is the southerly neighbouring village of Vaduz, and is situated between the Rhine River and the Liechtenstein mountain world in a wonderful landscape.

The romantic village core with old houses, flanked by mountain vineyards and two stylish chapels, bears witness to the area’s hundreds of years of history, and bestows it with its special character.

Today Triesen, which has been led by progressive Director Xaver Hoch since 1987, is a modern-oriented municipality which has considerable appeal. In recent years the village has experienced the greatest population increase in Liechtenstein, and due to the solid infrastructure as well as the attractive residential area Triesen will certainly continue to grow. But Triesen can also boast of enormous growth as a location for industry and trade as well as for the services sector.

At the moment the village’s state of growth is characterised through numerous construction-related changes. Now that the needs of the primary school have recently been adapted through expansion and reconstruction projects, the ground-breaking ceremony for yet another expansion project regarding continuation schools as well as the new construction of a music school have also been effected this year.

There are an abundance of opportunities in Triesen to develop leisure activities. The municipality has not failed to invest again and again in the growing requirement for infrastructure facilities in the realm of sports or culture. And so it goes without saying that the Blumenau sports facility is a concluded matter for an attractive project concerning complete restructuring. Interested tennis enthusiasts will find a beautiful facility along the edge of the forest - including indoor tennis courts. The indoor swimming pool is popular year-round, and a large-scale playground and barbecue area is well-visited by families with children. Two fitness courses, which satisfy all of the demands placed by sports enthusiasts and health-conscious fitness buffs, are also located in the immediate vicinity of this recreational facility.

Exhibitions, concerts and other cultural events take place above all in the Triesner Saal (Triesen Hall). A meeting place for youth, in which the youngsters of the village meet regularly to enjoy leisure activities, is located in the basement storey of the municipal centre. The municipality is blessed with an extremely active «club culture», which makes it easy for youngsters and the newly arrived to gain access to the village community as well as to meaningfully develop their leisure activities.

Triesen is an excellent starting point for extensive hikes in Liechtenstein’s intact mountain world. But the immediate vicinity of the village, with its splendid natural and cultural landscapes, can also be explored by means of numerous walking trails. The «Culture and Nature Course» walking and hiking guide series published by the municipality provides route descriptions and interesting background information.

The Marienkapelle (Mary’s Chapel) in the lower section of the village and the St. Mamerta Chapel on an elevated plateau impart pure cultural history. Recently discovered baroque frescoes adorn the walls of the Marienkapelle, which together with the likewise baroque furnishings offers an unexpected contrast to the chapel’s unpretentious building structure. The St. Mamerta Chapel, which is even older than the Marienkapelle (certainly to be dated in the 10th century), displays a quite special charisma.

A feeling for the social history of the area can be gathered during a visit to the local Triesen Heritage Museum, in which above all rural farming equipment and handcrafts are exhibited. Both of the chapels and the heritage museum open their doors for interested visitors by appointment.
