The municipality’s guiding principles:
Future with quality!

Geographical location
Size of the municipality

The municipality of Sevelen has approx. 4’300 inhabitants. In addition to the village of Sevelen it comprises the hamlets Rans, Oberräfis, St. Ulrich and the Sevelerberg. The municipal area extends along the eastern slope of the Alvier Range as far as the 2’382 m high Fulfrist, the boundary to Walenstadt. In the valley, the municipal boundary continues as far as the Rhine River and accompanies it a considerable distance further. There, in the Fösera, is also the municipality’s deepest point (451 m). Sevelen has a surface area of 30.34 km2.

Sevelen is situated in a rural and yet central setting. Distances can be covered in a short time thanks to Sevelen’s own motorway connection and good ties to regional and supraregional transportation (bus).

Infrastructure
Shopping possibilities are sufficiently available for daily needs. In addition, several large shopping centres are easily accessible within a radius of ca. 12 km. Cosy restaurants invite guests to stay awhile and enjoy tasteful meals. Youth advancement is a major concern for the municipality. And for that purpose several clubs offer youth possibilities to spend their free time in a practical manner, to promote their skills and to foster their comradeship. In addition, there is also a supervised youth centre, where the concerns of the youngsters are taken seriously and help is offered for problems.
Of the 4’300 inhabitants, more than one fourth are children and youngsters under age 20. Accordingly, the municipal school system maintains three kindergartens, two elementary schools and a higher grade school centre. The range of opportunity for youth schooling and further education is provided for on a municipal and regional basis. Sevelen offers elderly people dignified living space and residential accommodation with the old folk’s home and senior citizen apartments.

Culture
Culturally speaking, various projects have been realised in recent years. One example is a comprehensive reference book regarding all local village names with a corresponding map of the municipality of Sevelen. Three special circular hikes which help visitors to appreciate the beauty of the landscape have also been highlighted. Mountain forests, alpine pastures, lowland forest and inland canals satisfy the desire for various recreational activities such as bicycling/mountain biking, rafting, cross country skiing in winter - and much more.

Trade and industry
As a result of the variety of commercial and industrial businesses, jobs are available for the auxiliary workforce as well as technical specialists, whether that be in the automotive industry, textile manufacturing or even the catering trade.

Traffic
Traffic calming efforts are also an important subject in Sevelen. There is an overall traffic concept which enables a systematic, successful implementation on a step by step basis for the benefit of the population.

Economic promotion
Sevelen continues to be promoted as an attractive residential, commercial and industrial location. While doing so, the municipality strives to achieve a gentle population growth as well as economic advancement, and makes allowances for a healthy habitat.
