Interview

Liechtenstein Tourism
Managing Director Roland Büchel

exclusiv in conversation with
Roland Büchel, Managing Director
of Liechtenstein Tourism

Liechtenstein Tourism is the national
sales & marketing organisation
for the travel and holiday country Liechtenstein.
What responsibilities does this organisation have?

Commensurate with the Tourism Law from 2000, the responsibilities of Lichtenstein Tourism are: To ensure the tourism marketing in Liechtenstein in coordination and conjunction with Liechtenstein’s general location marketing; the information and the promotion of cooperation in the tourism industry; the guest information and the safeguarding of Liechtenstein Tourism’s interests in regional and international tourism organisations and to promote the tourism infrastructure and offers in Liechtenstein as well as the sale of tourism products.

Past – Present – Future

The Principality of Liechtenstein has an impressive mountain world and a living culture. Liechtenstein is varied in topographical as well as culinary respects. Variety is nothing more than the multiplication of beauty. The Principality of Liechtenstein is an interesting and attractive destination. The guest is the top priority of our daily work. We want to show the visitors to our country what the Principality of Liechtenstein offers them. Our most important objectives are to bundle these services individually and in an exciting, interesting and detailed manner, to integrate the inhabitants, to promote quality awareness, and to continue to strengthen internal and external communications through targeted media work.

Liechtenstein Tourism
Relative importance at home and abroad

For quite a while, the relative importance of tourism has been unacknowledged and underappreciated in Liechtenstein’s highly-developed national economy. Today, we know that tourism provides over 1’100 jobs and that the tourism industry has an annual turnover of ca. 180 million Francs. The holiday and leisure time country Liechtenstein has many faces and offers a considerable degree of quality. It is this mixture of tradition and modernity in a small region which constitutes the Principality’s charm. In collaboration with the «Image Liechtenstein» Foundation we are endeavouring to strengthen our country’s positive perception abroad to expand and deepen the cooperation with our neighbouring countries. Of course, both are longterm but very important responsibilities as well as investments in the future.

As the Managing Director
of Liechtenstein Tourism,
what is your wish for the future?

My wish is that many people from all around the world visit us, that as guests they feel completely at home with us, that they go home with a positive impression, and that they recommend the Principality of Liechtenstein further.

Roland Büchel acquired his international professional experience in product management and marketing in a large Liechtenstein industrial enterprise. From 1990-1996 he was the Director of the Press and Information Office. From 1996-2000 he managed a consulting firm with the emphasis on municipal development.

Roland Büchel has been the Managing Director of Liechtenstein Tourism for five years.
