Municipality of Triesen
with Director Xaver Hoch

The view of Triesen is only complete
after a stroll beyond the perimeter of the houses

Triesen - the third-largest municipality in the country - is the southernmost neighbouring village to Vaduz, and is situated between the Rhine River and the Liechtenstein mountain world amidst beautiful countryside.

The romantic village centre with old houses, flanked by vineclad hills and two stylish chapels, bears witness to the centuries-old history of the locality and lends it its special character. Triesen is an excellent starting point for extended hikes in Liechtenstein’s intact mountain world. But the immediate vicinity of the village - with its splendid natural and cultural landscapes - can also be explored on numerous walking trails. The walking and hiking trail guide from the «Kultur- und Naturparcours» (Culture and Nature Trail) series published by the municipality provides route descriptions and interesting background information.

The «Marienkapelle» (Madonna Chapel) in the lower part of the village and the St. Mamerta Chapel situated on an elevated plateau convey a sense of pure cultural history. Recently discovered baroque frescoes adorn the walls of the Marienkapelle, which together with the likewise baroque furnishings also offers an unexpected contrast to the chapel’s plain structure. The St. Mamerta Chapel, which is even older than the Marienkapelle - it dates back to the 10th century - exudes a very special radiant charm.

With respect to economics, Triesen has managed to get over the poor economic conditions of recent years thanks to broad diversification. There have been additional impulses recently in the financial services sector due to significant newly established companies.
