Municipality of Balzers
with Director Anton Eberle

Balzers, the southernmost municipality in the Principality of Liechtenstein,
lies at 475 metres above sea level and has a surface area of 19.623 m2

The municipality of Balzers formerly consisted of three localities, the villages Balzers and Mäls as well as the Gutenberg Fortress. The Gutenberg Fortress has influenced the history of Balzers over the course of centuries, and today is still the landmark of the municipality due to its location in the middle of the settlement area.

With 4’400 inhabitants, 300 business enterprises and approximately 3’000 jobs, Balzers is for one thing a village in the Principality of Liechtenstein which features a strong industrialisation and a thriving commercial trade. The infrastructure is developed to a high standard, and mayor Anton Eberle is convinced that projects such as the arrangement of the village centre, the securing of the school route, expansions of sports facilities and the refurbishment of barns and farmhouses will continue to qualitatively strengthen and optimise the village.

The municipality embarked on a new method with regard to the arrangement of the village square, and invited inhabitants to take part in the collaboration. The workshop has shown that the inhabitants of Balzers are interested in the village events and are gladly willing to participate in the collaboration. Balzers has a very attractive and keen club life, and the varied cultural events bring visitors from throughout the region into the village. The immediate surroundings of the village offer a splendid natural landscape in which extended hikes can be made on numerous trails.
