Gregor Ott, a municipal director in the service of the municipality of Eschen since 1st February 1999

Eschen, together with the locality Nendeln, is considered as the main town of the Liechtenstein Lowland, features about 3,800 inhabitants, and offers a pleasantly situated, relaxing residential area.
Eschen extends from the southern slope of the Eschnerberg mountain through the Riet up to the western slope of the Dreischwestern («Three Sisters») range, where the locality Nendeln is situated. The municipality of Eschen has a surface area of ca. 10 km2, has about 3,800 inhabitants, and is considered to be the centre of the Liechtenstein Lowland. The secondary school and high school, a public library, and the St. Martin Nursing Home are located here. About 2’800 people are employed in the most varying industrial, commercial and service businesses. Hiking trails such as the historical Höhenweg («Panoramic Trail») and the cultureoriented circular hiking trails, bicycle paths in the Riet, the spaciouslyarranged sports park with family playground and the Finnenbahn («running track»), the health & fitness course as well as an attractive indoor swimming pool invite visitors to indulge in recreational and leisure activities.
Eschen’s village centre covers all needs. Shops and service businesses are easily accessible here. In Eschen and Nendeln you’ll find restaurants and eateries with rich regional and international culinary delights for the palate. Various wines from Eschnerberg round out the culinary offer.
Even in the cultural realm you’ll also come across a broad spectrum within the municipality. In addi- tion to the Pfrundhaus (benefice house), private galleries offer various exhibitions and musical special-ities. But the clubs also play a large role in Eschen. At the moment the inhabitants are able to usefully take advantage of 47 clubs for their leisure activities. A highlight of a different nature is the annual Cattle and Merchandise Market. Archaeological excavations in the municipal region provide evidence of ancient settlements. The openly accessible outlined foundation walls of a Roman farm estate in Nendeln are especially worth mentioning. Over a thousand years of church history has been made visible due to the excavated foundation walls in Eschen.
Of course, we certainly don’t want to forget mentioning the historic Rofenberg Chapel site, where public court was held in former times. The chapel was restored in 2002, and damage which occurred since the last renovation in 1952 was repaired. At the moment quite a few changes are taking place in Eschen as a result of alterations, new constructions and renovations, which will advantageously transform the local village image. This is why work is presently underway at the new village square. The square will be ceremoniously inaugurated in October 2003. The municipal administration building is being expanded at the same time. The alteration and reconstruction of the Eschen primary school is also in the preparation stage.
Eschen, together with the locality Nendeln, is considered as the main town of the Liechtenstein Lowland, features about 3,800 inhabitants, and offers a pleasantly situated, relaxing residential area. The Post Office, which had been completed in May 2000 in collaboration with the state, now features a facility which allows double utilisation - postal operations on the ground floor, and senior citizen apartments on the upper floors. The roof terrace is designed in such a manner that multiple utilisation is possible. It is supposed to serve the residents of the house as a leisure activity and recreation area, but will also be available for the leisuretime activities of the senior citizens of our entire municipality. With the construction of the multi-purpose facility - the completion was effected in May 2000 - space was created for the municipal works, the volunteer fire department, the music school and the art school. The large room in the upper floor has been furnished with the necessary infrastructure, and is thus able to be utilised for gatherings, seminars, information events or continuing education courses.

Visit our municipality. We look forward to your visit, and sincerely welcome you.
