Interview

Engineering and Architecture Association
President Siegbert Kranz

exclusiv in conversation with Siegbert Kranz,
President of the Engineering and Architecture Association

The Mission and Purpose of the
Engineering and Architecture Association «LIA»

The Liechtenstein Engineering and Architecture Association or «LIA» represents the professional interests of engineers, architects and professional town and country planners in Liechtenstein. The objective of the «LIA» is the promotion of engineering and architecture and the associated disciplines from the construction, technology and environmental sectors.

It supports their cultural, social and economic significance, encourages creative and innovative work and aims to promote quality. The «LIA» promotes interdisciplinary cooperation. Through its work as the authoritative professional organisation in Liechtenstein, it ensures the contact between its members on the one hand and the authorities, the economy and the public sector on the other.

What tasks does the
Engineering and Architecture
Association undertake?

In the field of architecture and town and country planning it deals with decisions which concern the good, the sensible, the beautiful and the appropriate. Our job is to advise members, housebuilders and public authorities. Our members participate in public committees and working groups. We nominate specialists and experts.

Comments and opinions are given on laws and decrees and also concerning public awarding of contracts. Assessments on the specialised ability for a self-employed exercise of our profession in Liechtenstein in accordance with the professional law for engineers and architects also form part of the activities of «LIA» as does the organisation and execution of specialist trade events.

The future of Architecture Promotion
of the Professions in our Country

Today we are dealing specifically with questions of the environment, society, culture, security and technology of the country. Our work includes the planning, design and construction of buildings. What is important here is the consideration of the requirements of our customers and users, the circumstances of the environment and the conditions laid down by standards and laws. If we look around the Principality of Liechtenstein we see many beautiful structures and symbols of the country.

Architecture as a constructed environment must be appropriate spatially and organisationally for all physical processes that take place within it. These processes include work, living, learning and security in many different, sometimes conflicting manifestations. As these processes are constantly changing and under certain circumstances new requirements arise, this means that architecture must constantly be readapting to these developments. Through the promotion and support of professional training it is ensured that the future of our activity will also be secured for the young generation in the principality of Liechtenstein.

Siegbert Kranz is in the third year of his presidency of the Engineering and Architecture Association. After his training in construction drawing he attended the Abendtechnikum [nstitute of Technology].

Whilst working in the structural engineering department he developed the area of safety and fire protection, an area in which he also specialised in his activities as a self-employed person.
