Form of government, constitution
The Principality of Liechtenstein is a constitutional hereditary monarchy based on democratic and parliamentary fundamentals. The state authority is anchored in the prince and in the people, and is exercised by both in accordance with the provisions
of the constitution «Art. 2 of the constitution from 1921»

Sovereign
His Majesty Prince Hans-Adam II. von & zu Liechtenstein, Duke of Troppau and Jägerndorf, Earl of Rietberg, succeeded Prince Franz Josef II. to the throne
on 13th November 1989.

Government
Five-member government appointed to a four-year term by the Prince at the nomination of parliament.

Government Councillors:
Hansjörg Frick «FBP», Dr. Alois Ospelt «FBP», Dr. Ernst Walch «FBP»

Parliament
25 Landtag «state parliament» representatives, elected for your years by the people by virtue of general direct and secret ballot. Allocation of parliamentary seats 2001 - 2005. 13 seats Fortschrittliche Bürgerpartei («Progressive Citizen’s Party») «FBP»,
11 seats Vaterländische Union («Patriotic Union») «VU», 1 seat Freie Liste («Independent List») «FL»

Courts
The jurisdiction in civil and criminal cases is exercised in the first instance through
the Landesgericht (District Court), in the second instance through the Obergericht (Higher Court), and in the third and last instance through the Oberst Gerichtshof (Supreme Court). Courts of public law are the Verwaltungsbeschwerdeinstanz (Administrative Complaint Instance Court) and the Staatsgerichtshof (Constitutional Court). The courts are domiciled in Vaduz.
