Municipality of Schellenberg
with Director Norman Wohlwend

The municipality of Schellenberg is with 355 hectares
the smallest municipality in the Principality of Liechtenstein

In addition to the extraordinarily beautiful location at nearly 700 metres above sea level, Schellenberg impresses visitors with its fascinating panorama of the surrounding Liechtenstein, Austrian and Swiss alpine ranges. Two well-managed guesthouses offer hikers a sumptuous range of culinary delicacies.

The «Eschnerberg Historical Trail» leads hikers to idyllic locations, and is a «stroll» through history for those visitors interested in tradition. In the municipal area there are two castle ruins which in the 13th century were in the possession of the Lords of Schellenberg - who originated from the southern German region - and who also gave their name to the village and the former Schellenberg dominion «identical with the present-day Liechtenstein Lowlands». The municipal hall and the post office «opened in 1984» as well as the elementary school «expanded in 1990/91» are grouped around the square in front of the church.

Mittelschellenberg locality is characterised through the special ambience of the Frauenkloster «convent». The Sisters of the «Precious Blood of Christ» convent has experienced several construction phases, but for the most part it was built in the period between 1860-1873. Schellenberg is also the communal location of the oldest wooden residential house in Liechtenstein. Erected in 1518 as a simple streak-plank wooden construction, the so-called «Biedermann» «honest citizen» house today stands in the town centre. Schellenberg - a modern village with considerable quality of life and a progressively developed infrastructure. A cosy, interesting village in which there are many things to discover and explore.
