Resident Embassies
Principality of Liechtenstein
The ambassadors represent the Principality of Liechtenstein in another
country as the highest representatives of the Principality of
Liechtenstein. The ambassadors are representatives of the government,
and thus the highest ranking representatives of the Principality of
Liechtenstein in the respective host country.
The ambassadors as well as other diplomats are granted immunity in
order to enable unrestricted representation of interests. The
representative residence of the ambassador and his/her family is called
«Residenz» and is - like the embassy - an extraterritorial area for the
host country. The ambassadors of the Principality of Liechtenstein
safeguard the interests of our country in their host country, and are
thus bound to the instructions of the Department for Foreign Affairs.
Included are all areas of intergovernmental cooperation, but
particularly politics, culture, economy and legal and consular
matters. It also concerns intensifying the cooperation, not merely at
the highest level, but on all levels.
For this purpose the ambassador requires good personal contacts in the
most varying circles. His/her interlocutors are the members of the
government and the parliament as well as important personalities from
the realm of political, economical and cultural life, the press and the
country’s citizens. However, as a connecting link between two countries
the ambassador is not merely responsible for the mainte-nance of
relations between both countries and the appropriate representation. As
a countermove, he/she also informs the government of the Principality
of Liechtenstein about the important political, economical and cultural
developments and decisions in his/her host country.
The ambassador receives delegations and travelling personalities from
the Principality of Liechtenstein for information discussions and
brings them together, within the scope of pertinent events, with
important interlocutors from his/her host country. The ambassador is
supported in all areas of his/her daily work the embassy employees.
